I spent quite a bit of time last week applying Marie Kondo tactics to my closet. Well more than my closet, all the closets in my home. I was not feeling well for most of the week, but somehow I had bursts of energy here and there and attacked the inspiration to purge.
I clean my closet at least once a year but somehow I found clothes going back to 2012. How is it possible? Many were stretched out or too big, or fuzzy, or just worn thin.
Isn’t that also what sometimes happens to our brains and the thoughts we choose to think? We keep holding onto old thoughts that do not really fit who we are now.
They might be stretched or fuzzy and no longer serve us.
I made choices of what to keep, what made me happy to put on, what felt cozy, or gave me an extra glow.
My husband caught the bug and did the same on his side of the closet. We filled (and donated) over 10 trash bags, and I now love walking into a closet that feels lighter. I moved on to books, files, things that just have sat for so long (and we are already a minimalist family).
I am not done and maybe I really will never be, because shouldn’t we constantly be looking at what in our lives is no longer serving us? Sometimes what takes the most courage is starting.
