Are you afraid of change?

In Yung Pueblo’s book “Inward” he writes, “Nature is in a constant state of change.” Later on the same page he says, “There is not a single moment when change is not present.” (By the way, I HIGHLY recommend this book.)

It really got me thinking about change. I have a background in change management so I have thought a lot over the years about change. But he got right to it. Every moment we change.

When we resist change, we stay stuck like in a hamster wheel going in circles but never actually getting anywhere.

So often we resist change because we are afraid we won’t like where we are going, we don’t feel confident about what is changing, or we are fine right where we are.

Most of the time we don’t have control over the change that happens to us. None of us thought we would learn to work from home for so long, balance our children’s schooling, and relearn how to live in this pandemic world we are in. We all had to adapt and change.

When we are open to change, and have less resistance, we are like snakes and shed our past selves (although hopefully it happens faster for us than the snake).

We learn to be better people, role models, leaders.

We try to be more empathetic, understanding, loving. Well, maybe some of us.

Whatever it might be, when we are open and fearless we are able to adapt to change with less resistance and pivot through the change that is thrown at us.

Would you rather be a resistor or would you like to shed the old for the new?
