You may have decided to be with the masses today to go shopping, or you might have been outside (too damn cold where I am), or like me you stayed in and played games with your kid(s). Regardless of whether you are shopping this weekend or hanging out with your family I want you to think about this:
Be aware of your thoughts in the moment.
That’s all I ask. What I mean is before you buy that thing that is 70% off ask yourself, do you really need it? Does it really serve you? Does the person you might be buying it for really need it? Will it serve them? Are you buying it because it is on sale? What are you thinking about when you pick up that item on sale? What feelings fill your body?
I know a lot of questions, but I have reasons. We so often make purchases because it is filling a void, or getting a crazy Black Friday discount makes us feel successful, but most of the time we do not even need or want the thing we are getting on discount. When we pause to think about that item and what it brings to our life, when we actually feel why we are purchasing it, we often make different decisions.
If you are with your family, are you present? Are you listening, or checking out and waiting until family time is over? Are you enjoying these special moments? What are you thinking about when you are hanging out with your family over the holidays? I love playing games with my son. He gets to learn about winning and losing and I get to focus 100% on playing and having fun with him.
If you are aware of your thoughts in the moment, you will be more aware of how you show up to others. Do you like what you see?
