I am in awe of my 6-year-old son.
A situation that happened at his school this week reminded me of how much grit, determination, or tenacity we have stored up inside ourselves.
He is in Kindergarten and there were some changes with teachers. They added a new one and split and joined two classes for part of the day. Somehow in the mix of it all there wasn’t any communication to the parents and my son was the only kid from his class that was moved to a new teacher.
One morning this week while getting ready for school he lost it and was sobbing that he did not like his new teacher. I was thinking he’d only known him for a few days so there has to be something else happening.
As I dug more into what he was thinking and feeling and learned that they moved him away from his old teacher discovered that he felt left out and singled out — as if he’d done something wrong. That sweet boy! We talked it through and he went to school that day. We communicated with the teachers to find out the facts, and learned my son was correct about the changes. They offered an option that he can see his old teacher during a “quiet time” before school and at lunch and so my son decided he’s going to get up earlier three days a week to see his teacher before school starts.
Now this isn’t my favorite solution because I’m not a morning person, but my 6-year-old has decided he wants to do it, so we are going to make it happen.
What 6-year-old is that determined to see his old teacher?
And — where are we NOT following through with what we really want in life? Where are YOU settling? Why are you stuck? And how about channeling this precious 6-year-old and going for it?
I’m inspired. Are you?
