In one of Brene Brown’s recent podcasts, she talks about how for most things that happen in our life, there is the initial shock, and then we work through the stages of dealing with it.
Examples: Hurricanes, Tsunamis, Earthquakes, 9/11
They all happened and while the grief and clean up took a lot of time, the shock or event was quick.
What we are going through now is a shock that many of us are a month + in, and we still don’t know when it will be over.
Our fight and flight response in our body does not know what to do, it does not know how to calm down.
For some of us (especially those that are homebodies) we nestle in, but for others that crave being with other people it is a struggle.
We are learning resilience.
We are being required to be flexible.
Not as a city, state, or country but as a world — a new world.
We are learning that what we always thought we had control over — well, we never really did.
So how can we calm our nerves, fears, and anxiety?
Start with looking at your thoughts.
What are you allowing into your mind?
If you are not sure where to start with your thoughts, get out a journal or notebook and start a daily practice of writing down all the things that are consuming your mind. One of the first steps towards resilience is managing your mind. If you need help or want to chat more, sign up for time to chat with me.
