My favorite books of 2021

As a kid, when I needed to escape from the crazy shit happening in my childhood home, I would hide in my closet with a flashlight and get lost in a book. I was able to escape the pain and sadness of what was happening at home. A novel allowed me to jump into another world and forget what was happening around me.

We all thought 2021 was going to kick 2020’s butt, but for some of us 2021 was a long extension of 2020. It has been an incredibly hard year and I have to say I read way more “Chick Lit” in a year than I ever have before — think happy endings and beach vacations. Why not bring more happiness, adventure and escape reality when needed?

For 2021, there are still two days left and I’ve hit my goal of reading 100 books a year. Maybe in the next two days I can get to 101. My list of top mindset, inspirational and memoir books this year (in no specific order):

  • Think Again by Adam Grant

  • Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey (Memoir)

  • Inward by Yung Pueblo

  • Sunshine Girl by Julianne Marguiles (Memoir)

  • The Way of Integrity by Martha Beck

  • Redesigning Your Work Life by Bill Burnett and Dave Evans

  • Yearbook by Seth Rogan (Memoir)

  • These Precious Days by Ann Patchett (Memoir)

  • Clarity & Connection by Yung Pueblo

  • The Way Out: A Revolutionary, Scientifically Proven Approach to Healing Chronic Pain by Alan Gordon & Alon Ziv

Chick Lit book authors I binged on this year: Taylor Jenkins Reid, Christina Lauren, Emily Henry, Jaime Beck, Jasmine Guillory

If you had to pick one from the list, start with Adam Grant’s book. It will open your mind. Next up, try either of Yung Pueblo’s books.

I’d love to hear your top books of 2021. My first book to read for 2022 is Brene Brown’s “Atlas of the Heart.”

Happy New Year!

In case you want to read my favorite books from 2020.
