If I ever get a tattoo, I've always thought it would say this:
L i s t e n
I would put it on the inside of my wrist so it is visible to me.
It would be a reminder for me to listen and hold the space with others.
It would also be a reminder for me to listen to that voice from within.
We spend so much time talking, waiting to talk, filling space.
We all have a deep need to be seen and heard, but how often are we deeply listening?
To both our own inner voice and the voice of others?
Most of us do not know how to hold the space and be quiet for ourselves, let alone how to do it for others -- but carving out space for ourselves should not be considered a luxury.
We often don't do it because we are afraid of what we might hear or what we might learn about ourselves.
I know firsthand as I did for so many years. It was easier to do be all the things for everyone else, but guarding and being present for myself -- well, that felt too deep and painful.
What the world needs is more listening.
What we need is more quiet space for that inner voice to emerge.
If you do it, it may just be fucking life changing.
Any opinions on the font for my tattoo?
