The news is a LOT these days.
Embryos, layoffs, lawsuits, elections, human rights.
Some days I just cannot deal, hear anymore, or process all that is happening.
How we cope in these crazy a** times matters.
How often do we let the news or everything happening in our lives, be the pulse of who we are and how we show up?
When we are angry, when we feel injustice, when things do not feel fair — do we let those emotions change how we treat ourselves? Do we let them change how we treat others?
There is something we can do:
Have more equanimity.
What the heck is that you ask?
Mental calmness, evenness, composure.
It means not reacting to everything that happens in the moment. Pausing, breathing, and then deciding how to act.
If we work daily to strengthen our ability to have more equanimity in our life — it impacts who we are, how we show up, and how we react to the curveballs life throws our way.
Paying attention to what is happening inside.
Being more present and more attentive to our thoughts and emotions.
Not focusing on what we think is supposed to happen.
With more mental calmness, things happening do not necessarily get easier, but how we cope gets easier.
3 Takeaway Questions:
1. Take a moment to pause and breathe, ask yourself — what is truly happening right now?
2. What if you just welcome the emotions, but you do not have to do anything about them?
3. Do you need a news-pause, a walk, a hug?
