Last week was a heavy week for me, I kept getting migraines, and my energy kept telling me, “be patient.”
I was processing a lot of emotions. I am on day 94 of being home for Covid. My city is slowly opening up, but we are also seeing an increase in cases. It is hard to know what to do. I feel a responsibility as a parent and a citizen to continue to be cautious and careful.
As I continue to learn, seek, and understand about my privilege, there are a lot of emotions, thoughts, and feelings. So many questions come to mind. I was a Sociology major in college, so my main focus was on humanity, on race, justice, women’s studies, anthropology, and everything about people, human rights, and equality.
Last night I watched Michelle Obama’s documentary about her book “Becoming.” I loved reading her book, and I actually think her book was better, but the documentary made me cry. I’m glad this is the time I watched it. Looking back at 2008, it made me realize all the progress we made as a country. It was like cleaning your room, but pushing all the stuff under your bed. It’s all still there, and you did not really deal with it. I kept crying as I watched the documentary.
All this backstory is to tell you that regardless of all the things that are happening around us (pandemic + national crisis for equality) or on a normal day (what is normal anymore?) we have to manage our energy.
At the end of last week, the thoughts that kept coming to me where “wait” and “your questions will be answered” and “let go of controlling it all, you will know when you need to know.” I listened. I waited. I paused.
Today I got a note from a colleague, that confirmed my thoughts last week.
Sometimes we do not always know what is happening around us, what circumstances are causing us to have the thoughts we are having, but if we listen to our thoughts and our feelings, if we allow our feelings (whether good or bad), we can begin to take steps to better understand ourselves. We can learn what is holding us back and what will move us forward.
If you would like to talk about how to manage your energy, your thoughts, your feelings, sign up for a quick call with me. We can look at what is stressing you out, and I can teach you how I manage my energy every day.
