Navigating the holidays

The holidays can be a really strange time of year and it can trigger a range of emotions -- excitement, sadness, and tons of stress.

Often our family, friends, and work have expectations that we will do it all, and be everywhere.

Some of us have lost family and friends and the holidays can be a reminder of how much we miss them and holiday memories of the past.

Or we might have challenging relationships with family and those emotions come up during the holidays and that brings up angst, frustration, and anxiety.

It takes mental work to show up as your best self and be present in these times.

You may agonize over the awkward conversations or play over and over in your head how you will handle specific situations.

You might even find that you prepare to check out and numb yourself just to navigate these moments.

It's okay. You have to do what is best for you during these times. It may mean you sleep more, say no to food that you know will make you feel like crap later, or you have that extra glass of wine.

Whatever ways you have to cope during the holidays - just remember "You do you."

3 Holiday Tips

  • It is a moment in time, and emotions can be high. High expectations can lead to feeling let down, so keep your mind open and remember to BREATHE.

  • Put yourself and your mental health first (walk away if you have to, go for a walk, or decide to just not contribute to the conversation)

  • Set boundaries for yourself before you are with family (what are you not willing to put up with?)

Sending you all support this holiday season!
