Life was not always fun as a kid. My mom was sick, my dad was not in the picture. One year for Thanksgiving we received the cans from the canned food drive. That was when I knew things were worse than I thought. I was in middle school and our school had “turkey grams” that you could send to someone. My sister sent me one that I still have that said: “It can only get better, it can’t get any worse.”
I think of that turkey gram often.
When we think the situation we are in is horrible, we can start by looking at what we do have. What are the facts? I had a place to live, a mom and sister with me. I had food, even if it was given by other people. I was doing well in school.
All thoughts in our mind about the situation are just that — thoughts. Our mind likes to tell us lots of different stories about what could happen, how awful things will be, and how everyone else has it better.
All stories.
What are the facts?
What is true and what is making your mind spin so much that you are not enjoying what is right in front of you?
Not long after that we lost our house and and my mom, sister, and I lived apart for awhile. But we were still taken care of. We never had to live on the streets.
There is always an answer.
It just might not look exactly like you think it will.
Your thoughts matter, and sometimes we need help to look at them and see what is a fact and what is a story we are telling ourselves. Sign up for a free consult call with me and I can show you how to look at facts vs. your stories. It is liberating and I guarantee you looking at the facts will show you how many stories are spinning in your head.
