We are nearing the end of 2020, and what a year it has been. It is definitely a year that I do not feel nostalgic about -- just ready to say bye-bye 2020.

It has been a challenge and a year of change. Lots of shitty moments, lots of adapting, upheaval and balancing it all. Yet, there has also been so many opportunities for growth, and we often forget those moments.

We have learned how to let go of old routines. Try new things. Work differently. Be more present. Slow down.

What I learned in 2020:

  • That what I thought I had control over — I never really had control over it, I just thought I did.

  • I am more resilient than I ever thought I was.

  • I have never felt more like an adult than in 2020. Some tough decisions this year.

  • Community, connection, and relationships are most important.

  • The only thing we truly have control over are our thoughts, feelings, emotions, and how we show up.

  • Deciding what is most important in my life, prioritize it, and let so many other things go.

  • My mindset (growth) is what will take me to the next thing in my life, and to feed that.

  • As a society we have not respected service (front line workers, grocery cashiers, etc) and that we all love having our teeth cleaned, our hair cut, going to doctors and we did not value these individuals — that will change.

  • What we focus on and where our attention goes matters, and 2020 has changed how we engage with family, friends, how we learn online, and what we value and are willing to pay for.

  • I thought I knew so much about equality and diversity and I had so much more to learn.

There is more — but what I’d like to find out is what were your biggest aha moments? What did 2020 teach you? We have all had to learn how to be more resilient this year.

We can keep our resilience and stay centered into 2021. Bring on the challenges and bring on the opportunities.

How will what you learned in 2020 change how you show up in 2021?

I want to hear from you!
